Facials, what are their benefits?

Why get a facial?

A little self love                               goes a long way!

Raise your hand if you love having  healthy, glowing skin!

If you love looking in the mirror and  seeing smooth, soft skin!

Let’s lovingly remind ourselves that our skin is our largest organ, it is literally our shell, our very first outer layer. A huge part of what we present to the world first! Our skin is also a big reflector of what is found inward, with healthy skin, you get to look good AND feel good!

How many of you get regular facials? They are absolutely life changing!

Clear, healthy, radiant skin is our passion here at Zen Afterglow, and there are so many different tools and options to really accommodate to the specific needs of your skin.

Getting a facial here at Zen Afterglow is not only delicious for your skin, it is also an overall clearing experience of deep self-care. It is our mission to welcome you in a warm, loving environment and have you leave feeling fresh and rejuvenated.

The magic of fresh, young-looking skin

Now let’s talk about the various benefits facial treatments bring you.

By removing dead skin cells, the brighter, plump, and younger-looking skin is revealed. Making this a regular practice will help keep your skin looking fresh, delay signs of aging, increase blood flow to the area and of course, offer a great opportunity to de-stress, relax and enjoy some well-deserved pampering.

Just as we are all unique, so is our skin. There are many different skin types, and many types of facials to choose from. Depending on what you are wanting to focus on, what your skin is needing and what results you are seeking, etc.

Getting facials regularly not only allows you to optimize your skin health, but doing so with the same esthetician will allow the process to become teamwork as your specialist gets to know your skin on a deeper level and be able to assist you better with recommendations and greater knowledge of what is best for you.

The journey between you and your skin

All this being said, regular facials are so beneficial AND care in-between treatments is a very crucial part of skin health.

As epic as it would be to have your own personal esthetician taking care of your face every day, that just isn’t reality and that part is in your hands.

Creating a ritual and self-care routine is not only about physical/external health, it is also a beautiful act of self-care and self-love.

What you do and how you care for your skin between treatments will make have a huge impact and allow the results of your facials to be even better and deeper.

A few simple guidelines to follow immediately after a facial are:

  • Avoid touching your face
  • Avoid scrubbing your face too hard when you wash it
  • Avoid anything harsh like waxing, threading, plucking, etc.

* Your skin is in a very sensitive and exposed state and requires a lot of gentleness. *

Facial massages

Facial massages are another beautiful practice to implement. This can be done simply with your hands, or even a roller or guasha stone. Remember to include your neck and around your ears.

This is great for toning, increasing circulation and relaxing the muscles in your face and jaw.

Morning and evening practice

A morning and evening cleanse is a very basic first step to skin care. Warm water, a gentle cleanser, and a moisturizer appropriate to your skin type and needs is a great way to start your day. This allows your skin to be cleared and prepped for the day ahead, or put into rejuvenation mode for the night.

Regular exfoliation (1-2 times week) will allow your skin pores to be clearer, healthier, and also leave your face feeling fresh. It’s important to be gentle with this process, as the skin on your face is more sensitive than the rest of your body. Especially during times of sun exposure, your skin might be feeling rawer and tender.

Some simple ingredients to use in a face scrub are:

  •  Salt, sugar, baking soda and oats.
  •  Mixed with one of the following oils: coconut, almond, or even olive.
  • Add a fragrance you love, such as tea tree, rose, or any other gentle essential oils. Vitamin E is also a great option to add.

Gently exfoliate for a few minutes in circular motions, and rinse with warm water. A face mask and/or moisturizer is the perfect finishing touch. Again, remember to include your neck, and even your chest if you can.

Getting to feel and know your own skin

In all of your skin regimens and practices, always tune into how you feel; How does your skin feel before, during and after the treatment
How does it look?

What are the changes you notice?

These are all questions to keep in mind in order to find what  works best for you and your skin. There is not one perfect recipe for everyone, it’s about finding  what you need, and what works best for you. As you expand in your self-care and learn what really gets you the best results, remember that it is also great to adjust and bring changes when you feel the need to.

Our skin changes through seasons, aging, our nutrition, and so many other factors. Always pay attention, always stay tuned in, and that way, you will create a beautiful relationship with your skin and be able to determine what it needs in that moment.

Until next time, keep glowing !
